Physical and Chemical Properties of Quartz Powder(the same is with quartz sand)Quartz is one kind of mineral resources with quite stable physical and chemical properties. Its main chemical composition is SiO2, and its crystal belongs to rhombohedral oxide minerals, namely low-temperature quartz (a-quartz). Quartz is the most widely distributed in quartz minerals family. In broad sense, quartz also includes high-temperature quartz (b-quartz). Quartz block, also known as silica, is the main raw materials for producing quartz sand (also known as silica sand) and quartz refractory and silicon iron. Quartz sandstone, with its main component being quartz density being 2.65 grams per square centimeter and Mohs hardness being 7, belongs to hexagonal system. It takes on white, blue gray, gray and so on.Quartz sand, with its main mineral component being SiO2, is a hard, wear-resistant, chemically stable silicate mineral. It is ivory or colorless and semitransparent in color. Its hardness is 7, with density being 2.65 (packing density: 20-200 mesh of 1.5). Its chemical, thermal and mechanical properties have obvious anisotropy. It does not dissolve in acid and slightly dissolve in KOH solution. Its melting point is 1750 ℃.After quartz stone, exploited form mine, is processed, its size will usually be less than 120mesh (quartz sand), or over 120mesh (quartz powder).There are dry and wet ground quartz powders, with specifications normally being: 120M, 200M, 260M, 325M, 600M, 800M, 1000M and 2000M (“M” for “mesh”). In addition, specially shaped and size-distributed quartz powder can also be manufactured in accordance with customers’ requirement.Dry and Wet Ground Quartz Powder:1. Dry ground quartz powder: Main equipments include broken machine, grinder, vibrating screen and so on. The process is that to put quartz stones undergo the knock machine to become smaller stones, and then put the small stones undergo grinder to become sands, then put the sands undergo vibrating screen by using magnet bar to remove iron. When the quartz sand comes out from the vibrating screen, it will be quartz powder which is ready for packing and storing.2. Wet ground quartz powder: Main equipments include broken machine, stone grind, barn, vibrating screen, water systems, etc. The process is as follows: First, put quartz stones undergo the knock machine to become smaller stones. Second, put the stone undergo stone roll to be ground into sands. While rolling, water needs to be added into the sand to make sure it will flow into sedimentation tank together with the sand. Third, put the sands in the sedimentation tank undergo barn to be baked into dry sand. Fourth, put the dry sand undergo vibrating screen by using magnet bar to remove iron. After the fourth step, it is the finished products ready for packing and storing.Dry ground quartz powder is divided into ordinary quartz powder and refined quartz powder. When quartz stone is exploited out from mines, it is brown in surface. Smaller quartz stones picked out will be ordinary quartz powder after direct fragmentation and screening, with its surface being brown and white. Ordinary quartz powder is cheap but rich in impurities; therefore, it is often used in the construction industry. Comparatively larger quartz stone will be refined quartz powder after its brown coating is removed manually and then is processed again. It is white and bright, like white sugar. It is expensive for it is time and material consuming during the processing.Wet ground quartz powder is also divided into ordinary quartz powder and refined quartz powder, with the former being processed from smaller quartz stones and the latter being processed from larger quartz stones. Compared with dry ground quartz powder, wet ground quartz powder is less in iron and impurities. However, it is more expensive for it is more time and material consuming.

        Classified Applications:         1. Glass: When applied in flat glass, float glass, glass products (glass jars, glass bottles, glass tubes, etc.), optical glass, glass fiber, glass apparatus, conductive glass, glass cloth and anti-rays special glass, etc, as the main raw materials, it can greatly improve the proportioning degree of glass and fiber compound as well as the vitrifying speed in the furnace. It can also be used as filler for acid-resistant sulfuric tower.5. Mechanics: Quartz sand is the main raw material for casting sand; quartz sand is also used for blasting, sawing stone, polishing glass, grinding the surface of metal and stone products, as well as refining jewelry; quartzite and quartz sandstone can be used to make grinding stone, oil stone, sand paper, silicon carbide and other abrasive materials.6. Electronics: It can be used for electrical engineering, electronics, communication fiber, ultrasound technology and modern national defense and cutting-edge technology. Pure quartzite possesses properties of optical rotation and ultraviolet penetration; therefore, it can be used to make a variety of optical instruments and medical quartz lamps and so on.7. Rubber, PlasticsAs it is of chemical stability, acid-proof, alkali-proof,bigger surface area, huge interspaces, low oil absorption, strong thickening ability, high-temperature resistance, good electrical insulation, ultraviolet radiation resistance and so on, quartz can be applied as ideal enhancer forpolypropylene, polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene and other products, with not only larger filling volume, but alsobetter tensile strength. When made into master batch, it can be used into PVC floor tiles, improving the product of its abrasion resistance capability.
  
 Used in olefin resin film, its powder will be dispersed evenly and it is good in forming film and good inmechanical performance.Compared with that with PCC as filler, the infrared transmittanceblocking rate of this kind of plastic film is decreased by 10% or more, which makes it extremely suitable for applying intoagricultural greenhouse film. It can also be applied into the outer coating of wires and electric cables, etc. 
Added into rubber products, it can improve the tensile strength of products and make them tear-resistant and anti-aging, with its reinforcing effect. Compared to the middle and low-end precipitate white carbon black on the market, quartz takes the advantage in terms of SiO2 content (more than 99.6%), moisture content (less than 0.1%), product size (1-5um), oil absorption (15.2g/100g), etc. If filled into natural rubber, polybutadiene rubber, nitrile rubber and others, with excellent performance of mixing process, rolling and extrusion,it makes the powder disperse easily and also improves the vulcanizing rate of vulcanized rubber as well as increases adhesion
        
 Replacing 50% of white carbon black in rubber, quartz powder will have no impact on the products’ mechanical performances (including tensile strength, elongation, elongation at break, tearing permanent deformation, tear strength and hardness of products, etc.), but it can significantly reduce the cost. It is especially suitable for making rubber roller, rubber tubes, wires, cables, sheath and other rubber products. 
      
 8. Coatings and Fillers (improving the durability of coatings): Applied in paints and coatings (anti-rust paint, anti-corrosion paint, high-temperature paint, road paint, square paint, marine paint and other paints, epoxy self-leveling paint, senior interior and exterior paint, blending paint, priming paint), quartz will make them super fine, nonsettleable and good in dispersion, while reducing the using amount of dispersing agent in paint and coatings, in particular, the amount of resin. It will not only play a role in increasing filling capacity, thickening and delustering, but also improve the fineness, leveling, waterproof, anti-rust, anti-corrosion, anti-caking, anti-flow column, thixotropic, anti-UV radiation, anti-aging , film hardness, high-temperature resistance, scrub resistance, insulation and polish of surface. With excellent optical properties, its refractive index is closer to PE, PP and some resins. Mixed resins will be transparent, without covering the color of the pigment itself, but other fillers will lighten or change the original color of the pigment. As quartz powder is very white, it can be used as light-screening or delustering agent in paints and coatings to replace part of expensive TiO2, and thus reducing cost and price dramatically. Quartz powder doesn’t contain organic pollutants and is quite low in metal content. It can intensify the anti-UV and insulation performance, as well as improve the storage stability and reduce production cost of paints. Using our quartz powder into paints and coatings, all the above features will be taken on in your products. Using our quartz powder into anti-corrosion coatings, your products will be better in anti-acid and alkali, adhesion and impact strength. Using our quartz powder into construction coatings can intensify adhesion and drying speed. Common packaging is 25KG and 50KG.
